Chuadanga Sadar Hospital faced severe hygiene issues, with waste scattered across its premises, causing discomfort for patients, attendants, and staff. The shortage of cleaners left the hospital in a dire state, but local awareness had failed to bring change—until Sharifuzzaman, a local leader, took matters into his own hands.
Using his own funds, Sharifuzzaman hired three cleaners in September, maintaining the hospital’s cleanliness. Residents now note a marked improvement, with the previous foul conditions gone.
Local resident Selina Begum said, “Earlier, trash lay everywhere, making it difficult for patients and the public to move freely. Now the air is clear, and movement is easier.”
Sharifuzzaman, Chuadanga District BNP General Secretary and the party’s nominee for Chuadanga-1 constituency in the upcoming 13th national elections, has a long history of humanitarian work. He has assisted families affected by fire, provided medical aid, and supported education for underprivileged students through scholarships.
Local beneficiaries recall his timely help in crises, with one student, Shamima Khatun, noting that his support allowed her to continue studies despite financial hardship.
Sharifuzzaman also oversees his late father’s charitable initiatives, including the Hazi Shamsuzzaha Darul Ulum Madrasa and orphanage in Alamganj, which educates 500 students free of cost. He continues to provide scholarships and other humanitarian assistance across Chuadanga.
Born on 25 January 1973, Sharifuzzaman joined student politics inspired by the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman and later became active in BNP politics. He has held key positions within student and youth wings, contested local elections, and now leads the Chuadanga District BNP.
He emphasises service over power, saying, “Politics is not about power—it is about serving people.”
With a focus on improving health, education, agriculture, and youth employment in Chuadanga-1, Sharifuzzaman pledges to strengthen the district’s public services and ensure proper management of the 250-bed Sadar Hospital, as well as work towards establishing an agricultural university.
