Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 33 people into Bangladesh through three separate border points in Lalmonirhat.
The incidents took place in border areas under Hatibandha, Patgram and Aditmari upazilas early in the morning.
According to BGB and local sources, BSF attempted to push 11 people through the Borokhata border outpost area in Hatibandha, another 10 through the Poishottabari border outpost area in Patgram, and 12 more through the Durgapur-Dighaltari border area in Aditmari.
After receiving the information, BGB personnel rushed to the spots and took preventive measures along the border.
With assistance from local residents, the force successfully prevented the push-in attempts.
Sources said the individuals could not enter Bangladesh and were staying in the zero line or neutral area between the two countries.
BGB said surveillance and patrols in border areas have been further strengthened and the situation is being closely monitored.
In a statement, the media wing of Lalmonirhat BGB Battalion-15 said the force remains on maximum alert to prevent any infiltration or push-in attempt.
“The force has taken all necessary measures to protect the country’s borders and sovereignty,” the statement added.
