Teachers of seven public colleges threaten indefinite work boycott

Teachers of seven government colleges in the capital have threatened that they would observe indefinite work abstention if their demands are ignored in the upcoming ordinance on combining the colleges.

They issued the threat at a press conference held at the Shikkhabid Institute on Topkhana Road in the capital on Monday.

Professor Mahfil Ara Begum, convener of the protest organising committee, announced the warnings and demands at the press conference.

She alleged the current plans for the proposed Dhaka Central University, which would combine the seven colleges, do not include BCS teachers. The final ordinance on the university must include BCS Education cadres in all the stages of the framework, she demanded on behalf of the protesting teachers.

The framework and ordinance is yet to be finalised leaving both the students and teachers in confusions, she alleged.

She announced a six-day movement from 2 December, which includes the complete boycott of activities and exams on 4 December and the mass gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar on 6 December.
